Artists in Conversation: David Brooks and Erin Shirreff

A special conversation and drinks with David Brooks and Erin Shirreff. Brooks and Shirreff, who are both currently showing work at SculptureCenter's Knight's Move and PS1's Greater New York, will be speaking about their work on site at both locations, drawing parallels between the pieces that they have presented at each of these exhibitions. The talk will start at MoMA PS1, and then move up the street to SculptureCenter.

Join SculptureCenter for an exclusive members-only tour of the Armory Show at Piers 92 and 94, on Saturday, March 6 at 11:00 AM. Morse Collection Visit

Join us for a very special visit to the private collection of Barbara and Howard Morse. Barbara and Howard are passionate and informed collectors and patrons who were early supporters of Cady Noland, John Miller, Andrea Fraser and others. They rehang the collection in the Manhattan apartment regularly and this installation revolves around themes of seriality, appropriation, and representation and features work by Tom Burr, Ann Collier, Michael Krebber, Klara Liden, Josephine Pryde, and Seth Price among others.

Visit with Tom Burr and walkthrough of his current exhibition Sentence at Bortolami Gallery

Artist Tom Burr and Bortolami Gallery Director Simone Battisti will talk with members about Burr's latest work currently on view at Bortolami Gallery. Don't miss this opportunity to meet one of today's most important artists exploring post-minimalism and post-modernism. This is Burr's first US gallery exhibition in six years; Burr had his first solo US museum exhibition, Addict-Love, at SculptureCenter in 2008.

Conversation and Film Screening
with artist Rashid Johnson

Please join artist Rashid Johnson for wine and conversation about his current project Smoke and Mirrors at SculptureCenter, and a private screening of one of his recent short films. Considered one of the leading artists of the "post-black" movement, Johnson engages with racial identity in ways that insist on fluidity and contradiction. Johnson studied at Columbia College, Chicago and the School at the Art Institute of Chicago and has exhibited internationally. Smoke and Mirrors is Johnson's first solo museum show in New York.

 

Richard Meier Collection Visit

Join us for an exclusive tour of Richard Meier's architectural model studio in Long Island City. The collection on view includes 300 models housed in 3,600-square-foot warehouse, ranging from Meier's residential houses of the 1960's to early versions of his 1997 design for J. Medium No. 1 (Manhattan): Midtown

Tyler Coburn takes us through the streets of Midtown! Performance, technology, and urban poetics join together in Coburn's In Practice project Medium No. 1 (Manhattan) (2009). Beginning on the first day of the year, Coburn will transmit improvisatory monologues and conversations recorded on walks across Manhattan to a thermal roll fax machine in SculptureCenter's basement. Join us for this interactive afternoon, followed with an evening reading of a selection of Tyler's transmissions. Bring a guest and enjoy a glass of wine after hours at SculptureCenter.

Lower East Side Gallery Walk
