Tishman Speyer Collection Visit

The collection spans a period from 1960 through the present and is frequently rotated in their Rockefeller Center offices. Join Guest Curator Fionn Meade for a walkthrough of Scene, Hold, Ballast with exhibiting artists David Maljkovic and Lucy Skaer and Curatorial Associate Kristen Chappa for an introduction to SculptureCenter's 2012 In Practice program exhibition, You never look at me from the place from which I see you. Yve Laris Cohen will debut his new performance exclusively for members during the preview. The performance will take place inside of his site-specific installation in our lower level galleries.
The Member Preview will begin at 3:30pm with the walkthrough at 4:00pm and performance at 4:30pm. Complimentary beer and wine will be served. Please note that due to the location of the performance, capacity is limited.

Speculative Futures is a unique off-site exhibition featuring works by Julieta Aranda, Beth Campbell, Cao Fei, and Ana Prvacki. The exhibition looks at futurological tendencies in art and how they may relate to the context of the economic hub that is the Bloomberg New York office. Speculative Futures is curated by Regine Basha and organized by SculptureCenter for Bloomberg. The exhibition will be on view from February 1 - April 29, 2011 by appointment only.

Ursula von Rydingsvard Studio Visit

An intimate visit and conversation with Ursula von Rydingsvard in her expansive Brooklyn studio. Von Rydingsvard is best known for creating large-scale, often monumental sculpture from cedar beams, which she painstakingly cuts, assembles, glues, clamps, and laminates, finally rubbing powdered graphite into the work's textured, faceted surfaces. This visit precedes her major traveling exhibition Ursula von Rydingsvard: Sculpture, 1991 - 2000 opening at SculptureCenter on January 23, 2011. JJ PEET at On Stellar Rays

SculptureCenter's New Art Network will visit of JJ PEET's exhibition Shadow at the Lower East Side gallery On Stellar Rays. Candice Madey from On Stellar Rays and PEET will both be present for a conversation surrounding the exhibition. PEET's second solo show at the gallery includes recent paintings, ceramics, by-weekly video screenings, and a modular and mobile painting studio from which he has been working since June.

Barbara and Howard are passionate and informed collectors and patrons who were early supporters of Cady Noland, John Miller, Andrea Fraser and others. Conversation and Film Screening

Please join artist Rashid Johnson for wine and conversation about his current project Smoke and Mirrors at SculptureCenter, and a private screening of one of his recent short films. Considered one of the leading artists of the "post-black" movement, Johnson engages with racial identity in ways that insist on fluidity and contradiction. Johnson studied at Columbia College, Chicago and the School at the Art Institute of Chicago and has exhibited internationally. Smoke and Mirrors is Johnson's first solo museum show in New York.

Tyler Coburn takes us through the streets of Midtown! Performance, technology, and urban poetics join together in Coburn's In Practice project Medium No. 1 (Manhattan) (2009). Beginning on the first day of the year, Coburn will transmit improvisatory monologues and conversations recorded on walks across Manhattan to a thermal roll fax machine in SculptureCenter's basement.
