This publication is a vast collection of materials related to Henrike Naumann’s contribution to Ruin, the exhibition of works by Naumann and Sung Tieu presented in the German Pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale (curator: Kathleen Reinhardt). Naumann tragically died almost three months before the opening, but still finished the work and installation concept.

The publication has no clear beginning or end. As one turns the pages along the spiral binding, new connections emerge, fragments and meanings shift. It contains a 336-page concept paper, texts by Kerstin Stakemeier and Clemens Villinger, and conceptual notes by Naumann. The compiled material is both contextualizing and bewildering. It is “‘uncomfortable,” much as Naumann described her work in the pavilion. What emerges is a dense artistic practice that could not be consciously brought to a close, but is instead defined by an abrupt ending.

​Designed by the artist Johannes Büttner, Henrike Naumann: The Home Front is an open document that provides insight, but above all challenges the reader and provokes further continuation of these approaches.

This event will celebrate and commemorate the work of Henrike Nauman, who showed the exhibition Re-Education at SculptureCenter in 2023.The book will be available for purchase and can also be ordered online here.
