    In Practice: Kevin Hernández Rosa
    On view Jun 19–Jul 28, 2025

Kevin Hernández Rosa often makes work that alludes to the body in discomfort and suggests its causes. At SculptureCenter, Hernández Rosa exhibits new sculpture—hundreds of wooden components mimicking a revolver prototype made by Samuel Colt circa 1830 (now in a special firearms collection), an artificial kidney stone, and pieces of a destroyed bronze coat of arms ripped from the Samuel Colt Monument in Hartford, Connecticut—alongside a video that follows the contours of a conversation on creative acts, circumstance, inequity, and self reliance.

Hernández Rosa’s work as a multidisciplinary artist and writer often heightens the viewer’s attention to art objects and the shifting contexts that give them meaning—in this case, works that are in dialogue with historical collections; sites of public commemoration, defacement, or need; and galleries for sculpture. At the same time, these works provoke frank perspectives on violence and subjectivity that typically linger beyond the propositions and metaphors of contemporary art.
