Before Projection charts a history of video art that is coextensive with some of the most important developments in sculpture in the late twentieth century. Led by Mary Ceruti, Executive Director and Chief Curator, SculptureCenter, and Henriette Huldisch, Director of Exhibitions and Curator, MIT List Visual Arts Center, this discussion considers the exhibition’s claims for legacies of video sculpture that are distinct from the much more widely accepted and exhibited category of cinematic gallery installation. Joined by exhibiting artists Mary Lucier and Tony Oursler, the panel considers distinct artistic practices within this relatively unexplored history.
