    First Saturdays are a new series of fun Family Art Workshops in our new multi-purpose space! Artists will lead these practical sessions suitable for the whole family.

    New York-based artist Meriem Bennani will lead a workshop on video and animation techniques. Participants will create short, playful digital videos using green-screen technology.

    Meriem Bennani (born in Morocco) uses video and web platforms to dissolves digital media tropes and questions systems of representation through magical realism and humor. She grew up in Morocco and earned an MFA from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and a BFA from the Cooper Union in New York. Her work has been shown at MoMA PS1, Palais de Tokyo, BAM, and MANA Contemporary, and she will have a solo exhibition at Signal Gallery, Brooklyn in November 2015.

    Suitable for families with children ages 7-12. Materials fee: $10 per child. Each family should bring along an object or toy of their choice to use in their video and a smartphone. Pre-registration is required: click here to register.
