Allison Katz's playfully self-aware practice challenges the notion of formal coherence. Materials draw attention to themselves, and images transmute across the media of painting, sculpture, design, ceramics, and now woven fabric. Teasing out the question of how to make a painting today, she frequently oscillates between figuration and abstraction, or illusionism and decoration, sometimes within the same work. Allison Katz has exhibited her work in Art basel 2015 and in group exhibitions at Tate St. Ives, Cornwall (2017) and Serpentine Gallery, London (2016). Katz was featured in the 2014 SculptureCenter exhibition Puddle, pothole, portal. DNA is available in two colors: coral on light blue and navy on gold.
